New office for Freepoint Commodities at 62 Buckingham Gate, Victoria

62 Buckingham Gate

Green Building Design Consultants worked for Freepoint Commodities, a global commodity merchant and finance house, to redesign and manage the fit out of an open-plan trading floor on the 5th floor of 62 Buckingham Gate, Victoria, on a tight deadline ready for the company’s relocation in July 2018.

Meeting rooms were removed to create additional trading floor space and an additional cooling system was installed to serve the new, open-plan seating arrangement. An uninterruptible power supply (UPS) was installed to provide emergency power for the new comms room and all desks via a new underfloor power system, with the existing busbar retained as a raw power supply.

New fan coil units were added to the ceiling cooling system, which was reconfigured to redistribute air flow for optimum comfort. A second backup power feed from the basement was also installed to increase power resilience.

Our client at Freepoint Commodities said, “The team at GBD gave us very practical advice on their initial site visit. They produced a cost-effective design for the trading floor and implemented the new configuration without any issues. We now have a modern, open office inside a fabulous building.”

62 Buckingham Gate is a landmark office building owned by Land Securities, which is central to the redevelopment of Victoria. It features a triple-height reception which displays an optical chandelier made from 4,500 spectacle lenses and a tapestry by Grayson Perry. High specification services include access to backup generation being available to every floor upon request. Other tenants include Rolls-Royce and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.
