Originally built between 1756-1766 for John, first Earl Spencer and ancestor of Diana, Princess of Wales, it is London’s finest surviving eighteenth-century town house.

Spencer House underwent a major ten year programme of restoration, undertaken by RIT Capital Partners under the Chairmanship of Lord Rothschild, to restore the House to its former glory. The team at Green Building Design Consultants recently advised on energy efficient ways to maintain the environmental conditions required to conserve the building’s fabric and the stunning collections of paintings and furniture housed within.

Key Features:

- Comprehensive feasibility study conducted of existing environmental control system.

- Installing a new system wasn’t advised as it would have a detrimental aesthetic impact.

- Innovative, cost-effective, like-for-like replacements were identified and recommended.

The aristocratic palace, which is partly used as offices, boasts eight state rooms carved with architectural detail and chimney pieces and houses a magnificent collection of paintings and furniture, including five Benjamin West paintings. The advice and recommendations from Green Building Design Consultants will enable optimal environmental conditions for staff and visitors alike, whilst ensuring an uninterrupted view of the stunning ornate rooms and art collections.
