Green Building Designs for 120,000 sq ft BT Building

Green Building Design Consultants have overseen M&E designs for the refurbishment of the 120,000 sq ft former BT building on Castle Wharf, Nottingham.

Landlord, Charles Street Buildings Group, worked with Bidwells on the project, and GBD were given a short timescale to produce detailed designs for this impressive four-storey building. The brief was to redesign the offices to a Cat A standard so that the team could be ready to commence a new office fit-out within 6 weeks.

The work started with the removal of all equipment previously installed, including kitchen, toilets and comms room, leaving an empty shell. All the lighting, heating, power and cooling systems were redesigned for the new open plan space.

As part of the cost effective and low-energy design, a chilled beam system with up-flow ventilation was designed to integrate with the existing system. This will keep running costs to a minimum.

The building now also features double glazed opening windows, new perimeter radiators, toilets on each floor and showers, as well as a cycle store in the basement. There are four 10 person lifts and a goods lift for easy access around the building. A metal pan suspended ceiling with recessed fluorescent lighting has completed the refurbishment.
